Our Story

We understand, because we have lived it. Family Buddies was born from the story of founder Anna's mother, whose health was never strong. For years, life showed her little mercy. A few years ago she broke her foot and lost the ability to walk. Months later, she suffered another stroke. Her condition worsened day by day, and eventually degenerative disease set in, leaving even the simplest daily tasks beyond her reach. Through all of this, Anna cared for her mother alone. The weight she carried was immense. There was no organization like Family Buddies to help her. No matter how exhausted she was after a long day of work, she gritted her teeth and pressed on, holding onto one hope: that her mother, growing sicker by the day, would receive the care she deserved. She searched everywhere for the right services, only to hit a wall at every turn. What she witnessed and endured firsthand was a process shrouded in opacity and wildly inconsistent in quality. Drawing on that experience, and on her professional expertise, she made the decision to found Family Buddies: so that every parent whose children cannot be by their side, and every elder in need of support, would be genuinely looked after, receiving attentive, high-quality care and living out their later years in comfort and joy.

In early 2026, Anna founded Family Buddies with a mission to bring fresh thinking to the care industry, delivering high-quality, heartfelt services to elders from a place of genuine emotional care, nurturing with intention at every visit, and looking after the physical and emotional wellbeing of you and your family. We want to show, through action, that as parents grow older, aging and disability do not mean the only path forward is a hospital or nursing home. Elders can be fully and wholeheartedly cared for right at home. Let the Family Buddies professional care team step in for you and your family. Programs We Support

We guide families through two key New York State programs that help elders receive the care they need while remaining in their community.

MLTC

MLTC Care Hours Appeal

For clients already enrolled in a Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) plan whose physical condition has changed and whose current care hours are no longer sufficient. We build a strong case and advocate on your behalf, first through internal appeal, then through a Fair Hearing with the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance if needed.

This program is for applicants who are already receiving normal care services but require additional hours due to a change in physical condition or declining mobility, yet the requested increase was not approved through standard or internal assessment, making a formal appeal necessary.

Who qualifies:Applicants currently using MLTC services whose condition has changed and requires a reasonable adjustment to care hours.
Timeline:Typically 1–3 months, depending on whether the case is resolved at the internal appeal stage or escalates to a NY State Fair Hearing.

NHTD

NHTD Waiver: 24/7 Home Care Application

The Nursing Home Transition and Diversion (NHTD) Medicaid Waiver helps eligible individuals (whether currently in a nursing home or at risk of placement) transition to or remain in community-based settings with around-the-clock support.

This program is for individuals whose condition requires high-level or specialized care (such as limited mobility or Alzheimer's disease) at nursing-home level, but who choose to remain in their familiar community and warm home, able to see family and friends freely, living each day with joy and independence in their later years.

Who qualifies:Ages 18–64 with a physical disability, or age 65+, including elders living independently, elderly couples living alone, or clients whose children do not reside with them, provided they meet nursing-home-level care criteria. Applicants must hold active Medicaid.
Timeline:The process typically takes approximately 2–4 months.
